For more than 30 years, Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care (YLM) has maintained a connection with the Mexican Lutheran Synod (SLM). While this relationship has experienced seasons of difficulty and, at times, seasons of stillness, God’s timing has proven perfect. In recent years, and especially within the past two years, we have witnessed a remarkable and deeply meaningful reconciliation. What began as renewed dialogue has now grown into genuine partnership, mutual trust, and joyful fellowship.
Today, congregations YLM have funded, supported, and partnered with throughout our border region have been restored to full fellowship and pulpit sharing with the SLM. This renewed unity is strengthened further by the support and blessing of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS). Navigating this process has been both humbling and inspiring, reminding us the Lord is always at work –even when His plans unfold over decades.
Our brothers in the SLM and the Church in Chihuahua have demonstrated great humility, enthusiasm, and love for us as we celebrate together this rekindled fellowship. It is evident God has preserved this relationship for His purpose and glory. Their open arms, servant leadership, and Christ-centered vision have welcomed and strengthened the churches in our region.
This renewed partnership also brings great hope for the future. Soon, pastors graduated from the Seminary “El Redentor” in the Dominican Republic and ordained by the SLM will be called to serve our beloved congregations in Ciudad Juárez. These calls represent more than pastoral assignments –they are signs of God’s provision and His continued commitment to His people.
As Scripture reminds us, “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light” (Isaiah 9:2). The border region remains a place of both great need and great opportunity. Through faithful partnership, pastoral leadership, and the continued support of mission partners like you, the light of Christ continues to shine brightly.
We give thanks to God for His faithfulness, for our brothers and sisters in the SLM, and for each person who has walked alongside YLM in this journey. Together, we move forward in unity, strengthened by reconciliation, encouraged by renewed fellowship, and committed to advancing Christ’s mission in the communities He has called us to serve.
