Fall Baptisms in San Lucas

Throughout the years of serving alongside partnering mission-churches in Juarez, Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care (YLM) has kept its focus on one important goal –to bring the Gospel to those whom they serve. This is done by being a bridge between these mission-churches and their communities, making it possible for the church to offer the care and compassion the members of their community need, but also by bringing the Word of God through preaching, teaching, and the Sacraments.

This fall, Iglesia Luterana San Lucas has witnessed the growing faith of multiple people, with four baptisms taking place in the last month. One of those baptisms was of six-year-old Dylan Baca, who was four the year he and his parents received a little house thanks to the Servant Event team Peace Lutheran Church from New Berlin, WI.

“Dylan is a miracle baby,” his mother, Nancy De La Rosa, shared with the team back in 2021, “I was in my early forties, certain I was starting to go through menopause, only to find out I was pregnant. I have grown daughters, and grandchildren, and to have Dylan in my life has been an unexpected, but amazing, blessing.”

During the week Peace Lutheran-New Berlin worked on the little house Dylan and his parents would live in, Dylan interacted with the team but didn’t speak much. Two years later, he is an engaged little boy, curious about the world around him, and eager to share his observations with others.

Nancy has been an active member of Iglesia Luterana La Santa Biblia for several years, but after her house was built, she took it upon herself to help as much as possible at Iglesia Luterana San Lucas. In the last two years, she has provided home-cooked meals to teams building houses, or brought “aguas frescas” to the church where teams lead Vacation Bible School. She encourages her daughters to bring their children to all events of the church, and Dylan is always present as well.

This year, with the accumulation of several small donations towards the “Stay in School” Scholarship program, Dylan received a full “Stay in School” Scholarship for the 2023-2024 school year. Nancy has expressed the gratitude for this help in so many ways, but most importantly, she has become a testimony of how God works through the acts of kindness done by His children to bring salvation to people in need of Him.

Continue to pray for the growth of these mission-churches, and for God’s kingdom work to continue producing a harvest that’s a hundred-fold from what was sown. What joy for all involved, near and far, to see what God is doing through YLM and the churches of Juarez!
