Building Homes, Sharing Christ’s Love

During the second week of November 2025, Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care (YLM) welcomed a team of twelve short-term missionaries from Peace Lutheran Church of New Berlin, Wisconsin for their 11th mission trip to serve families in Ciudad Juárez. The team focused their efforts in the KM30 community, where many families face deep poverty and limited access to stable housing. Their main project was the construction of a new home for Josue, Raquel, and their young children, Miranda and Randy. Alongside the construction project, team leader Marilyn led a three-day Vacation Bible School at the KM30 Community Center. Nearly thirty children, along with several adults, gathered throughout the three days to hear the story of Jesus—His birth, His miracles, His death, and His resurrection.

Children memorized John 3:16 and learned songs featured on YLM’s Mariachi San Pablo CDs. One of Mariachi San Pablo’s members, Aaron, helped translate throughout the three days, bringing his guitar on the second and third day to teach the children a couple of Marilyn’s favorite Mariachi San Pablo songs. Parents and children expressed gratitude for the time spent in Scripture, music, and simple activities, which carried the message of God’s love.

By the end of the week, the impact of the trip was evident. A family received a safe home. Children heard the Gospel and carried new Scripture in their hearts. Relationships grew stronger between local leaders, short-term missionaries, and the families they served.
As YLM continues its work in El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, mission teams remain essential partners in meeting practical needs and sharing the hope of Christ. Churches, groups, and individuals who wish to serve are invited to consider a mission trip with YLM.

At YLM, we believe acts of kindness change lives.

That’s why part of our mission includes coming alongside families facing physical and spiritual needs –both in El Paso and in communities across the border in Mexico. By partnering with local organizations, cross-border churches, and ministries, we can bring God’s tangible love, mercy, and grace through Word and Deed.
