On December 13, the San Pablo Lutheran Church campus came alive as members gathered early to get ready for their annual Christmas Festival. Tables were set up, tents went up, and games and food stations slowly filled the space. By the time families began arriving, everything was ready for a day centered on welcome, joy, and time together.
One side of the festival quickly became a place of care and gratitude. Boxes filled with quilts were stacked beside a large tent, ready to be shared with families. Two hundred quilts were given out, along with toys provided through Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care, a long-time partner in San Pablo’s outreach ministry. Families moved through with smiles, stopping to talk, say thank you, and share a bit of their story.
Nearby, another tent held one of the most anticipated moments of the day. A total of 119 toys for girls and boys had been wrapped ahead of time in festive paper and labeled for children who registered before the event. Volunteers called out names and handed out gifts, while parents watched their children light up with excitement. It was a simple moment, yet full of meaning.
San Pablo members brought their own gifts to share as well. Homemade goodies filled the food tables, with warm Mexico hot chocolate served throughout the afternoon. The Cakewalk, always a favorite, drew a steady crowd. Homemade cakes lined the table as children waited for their turn, cheering when a number was called and celebrating each win. It didn’t take long for this station to become one of the busiest spots at the festival.
Laughter echoed across the grounds as kids moved from game to game. Animal balloons twisted into shapes, popcorn and donuts were passed out, and cheers broke out with every small victory. In the weeks leading up to the event, underserved elementary schools were contacted, and several new families joined the festival for the first time. Children jumped right in, laughing and playing as if they had been coming for years.
Members of San Pablo, young and old, served throughout the day. Some helped set up early, others oversaw booths, served food, or greeted families as they arrived. Everywhere you looked, there were friendly smiles and hands ready to help.
As the afternoon wrapped up, tents came down and tables were folded away, but the joy of the day stayed. This Christmas Festival once again reflected the heart of San Pablo’s ministry.
Through partnership, shared effort, and open doors, God’s love was lived out in simple and meaningful ways.
