This past Saturday, a group of dedicated members from Zion Lutheran Church came together to lend a helping hand at Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care’s (YLM) Saturday Food Pantry Drive-Thru. With hearts ready to serve and smiles on their faces, they rolled up their sleeves early in the morning to assist with one of the most vital outreach efforts in the community during these times of financial strain.
These willing volunteers were of all ages, gathering in the Food Warehouse at six in the morning, assembling food boxes generously stocked with items donated by El Pasoans Fighting Hunger, a local partner of the West Texas Food Bank. It was a true team effort—packing, lifting, sorting—all done with care and purpose, knowing each box would make a difference for a family in need.
What made the day even more special was the camaraderie among the group. Encouraging one another, laughing together, and finding joy in the work, they served not just with their hands, but with glad and grateful hearts. Their energy was contagious, and their presence made an impact not only on those receiving the food but on one another as well.
As a thoughtful gesture, the Zion team also brought along donuts and juice to share with the long-time volunteers who faithfully serve each weekend. It was a small act of kindness, reminding everyone how simple gestures can brighten a day and build a lasting community.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be part of something bigger than yourself—this is it. Volunteering at the YLM Food Pantry Drive-Thru is more than a few hours of service. It’s a way to connect, support neighbors in need, and grow in fellowship with others.
There’s always room for more helping hands. Whether you come with a group or on your own, your time and presence matter. Join us next time—you’ll be amazed at the difference you can make.
