It was a joy for Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care (YLMHC) to be able to exhibit the ministries taking place in the border region of El Paso, TX and Juarez, Mexico at the 2023 National LWML Convention, which was hosted in Milwaukee, WI. One of our staff members, along with a member of our partnering mission-church, San Pablo Lutheran Church, made the trip to Milwaukee to have an exhibit table, which was visited by many of the women who attended.
“It was so much fun,” Maritza Muñoz-Hernandez, YLMHC’s Donations and Distributions Facilitator, shared afterward, “So many of the women who stopped by shared about their experiences with YLMHC. Several of them served in Servant Event trips in the past, and most of them encountered Mariachi San Pablo through other conventions.”
The most recent presentation of Mariachi San Pablo was done at the 2022 Rocky Mountain District (RMD) LWML Convention held in Albuquerque, NM. Those who attended that district convention were still remembering the joy of listening to hymns, as well as popular mariachi music, in a different style than what the majority of them are used to.
“These wonderful women who comprise of hundreds of LWML groups across the United States really love Mariachi San Pablo,” Miguel, director of Mariachi San Pablo, shared prior to the convention, “It is through Mariachi San Pablo they also learn to encourage and support the multiple ministries taking place through YLMHC.”
At the district convention in 2022, LWML groups throughout the RMD brought new toys, blankets, backpacks, and school supplies for YLMHC to take back with them. It’s always a joy to these women to see how their collective efforts to show God’s love through these acts of kindness is taking place through YLMHC.
“We are excited to look for multiple opportunities to share about YLMHC,” Karla Gonzalez, Operations Manager of YLMHC, explained as plans were being made for several conventions taking place locally and out of town in 2023, “We want more people to know what God is doing here. God’s calling us to come together so we can take the Gospel to the nations, and we know with more people partnering to do ministry with, and through, YLMHC, more people in our border region will be reached through acts of compassion and care because of God’s love for them.”
YLMHC’s next convention will be at the end of July, with one of their representatives holding an exhibit table for the LCMS Convention in Milwaukee, WI.
