THE JOY OF CHILDREN

Iglesia Luterana La Santa Biblia is a vibrant congregation made up of over sixty families—mostly women and children—who gather each week under a metal canopy beside a shipping container. While they don’t have a traditional church building, this determined body of Christ continues to move forward, building their community with faith and teamwork.

With limited resources but a strong sense of purpose, the congregation has already achieved so much. They raised funds to build a bathroom, poured concrete foundations under the canopy and inside the container, and even bought new chairs to improve their meeting space. Their spirit of unity shines through every event and collaboration.

As “Día de los Niños” (Children’s Day) approached, the women of the church began preparing a celebration for the children of their congregation. They pooled their efforts and resources to create a day of joy for the children. From assembling candy bags to picking out prizes for games, organizing food like nachos and tacos, and serving aguas frescas, their goal was simple: to make the kids smile.

On April 25th, the celebration began at nine in the morning. Families gathered under the canopy, and excitement filled the air. After a prayer from San Pablo Lutheran Church’s vicar, and a message from Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care’s (YLM) spring intern, the games kicked off. Kids played “Giants and Dwarves,” musical chairs, sang songs, and recited Bible verses they had memorized. Laughter and energy flowed as children and adults enjoyed every moment.

One of the most touching moments came when Dylan, a second grader and YLM scholarship recipient, read the story of Saul’s conversion. Just a few years ago, Dylan struggled with speech and reading, but on this day, he read clearly and confidently. His reading brought smiles, and even tears, to those who’ve seen how far he’s come.

Throughout the event, everyone pitched in. Adults helped serve food, passed out drinks, and made sure everyone had what they needed. It wasn’t just about celebration—it was about serving one another. The day ended with the congregation gathering to pray over their children. With hands lifted and hearts full, they asked God to guide each child forward onto the path He has for them.

This event wasn’t just a party –it was a powerful reminder of what a united community can do with faith, love, and a shared mission.
