SOUTHERN REGION SPRING PASTORS’ CONFERENCE

This year’s Southern Region Spring Pastors’ Conference was held in Las Cruces, New Mexico, gathering pastors and church leaders from across the region for worship, fellowship, and discussion on ministry challenges and opportunities. Among the invited guests was Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care (YLM), a vital Lutheran ministry based in El Paso, TX, dedicated to serving communities along the U.S.-Mexico border through acts of kindness and Gospel outreach.

The conference’s opening worship service on Wednesday evening delighted all who attended, as Mariachi San Pablo, part of YLM’s Adelante Ministries, led the music. Their vibrant and Christ-centered performance helped set a joyful and collaborative tone for the conference. As the sanctuary filled with traditional mariachi sounds praising God, pastors, lay leaders, and congregants from across the region joined in worship, their enjoyment was shared afterwards with the members of the musical group.

YLM was honored to share its mission and ongoing work with attendees through a resource display table and personal conversations. On Thursday morning of the conference, pastors learned about the various ways YLM supports local congregations and communities—offering everything from food and clothing assistance to housing repairs, volunteer events, and cross-cultural ministry opportunities –from Karla Gonzalez, YLM’s Interim Executive Director.

A central theme of the conference was immigration—a pressing topic for many congregations in the Southern Region, particularly those near the border. The timing was providential, as YLM has long served immigrant communities with practical help and the hope of the Gospel. During sessions and informal conversations, YLM staff were able to share firsthand experiences of working with migrant families, supporting churches in crisis response, and building long-term relationships rooted in Christ’s love.

Pastors also learned about how YLM can be a resource for their own ministries. Whether it’s sending servant teams, referring families in need, or participating in border ministry events, YLM offers opportunities for churches to be part of meaningful, on-the-ground mission work. One pastor from Carlsbad, NM, arranged for his catechism students to visit YLM’s campus for a tour and a service project—demonstrating how these partnerships can take shape immediately.

YLM is grateful for the chance to connect with mission-minded leaders and looks forward to growing relationships throughout the region.
