With difficulty walking due to her feet, member of San Pablo comes to see Kathy every time she visits
For several years, the community surrounding San Pablo Lutheran Church has been blessed with a service of mercy in the form of diabetic foot care. The foot care clinic usually takes place once a year for five days, thanks to the loving service of a registered nurse specializing in diabetic foot care from White Bear Lake, Minnesota. This year, Kathy Meyer made the trip to El Paso twice; once in June, and again, the second week of October.
Checking for loss of sensation in toes and bottoms of feet
For people of the community, her service of love and compassion goes beyond mere foot care. For those with diabetes, this act of kindness is a matter of ensuring their diabetes hasn’t caused damage to their feet, a side-effect of the disease.
“For diabetics, it is extremely important to have their feet regularly checked,” Kathy explained as she used a small tool to check for possible loss of sensation, “If I see there’s trouble spots, I tell them to see their doctor as soon as possible.”
Several of the 22 people she kindly served during her October stay here at the San Pablo and Ysleta Lutheran Mission campus have gotten to know Kathy quite well. She’s been serving others through YLM for more than ten years. From helping build houses and hatcheries to cutting hair, along with doing foot care and blood pressure checks, Kathy has discovered the joy that comes with serving others.
We are truly grateful for Kathy’s ministry and loving kindness to others!
