Easter, a time of joyful celebration on the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ, is a season of preparation and celebration for many churches, and at Iglesia Luterana Santisima Trinidad, located in Cd. Juarez and a mission partner of Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care (YLM), baptisms and confirmations were included in all plans made.
Every year, Pastor Jose Angel Hernandez, who shepherds both Santisima Trinidad, and a house-church located in a rural area referred to as KM30, concludes a year-long series of instruction for parents, godparents, and confirmation students. Pastor Hernandez’s purpose for doing this long-year instruction is to ensure parents and godparents fully understand the importance of keeping children in the faith through Word and Sacrament.
The Easter service at Santisima Trinidad was well-attended, with families sitting together as they listened to Scripture, sang in unison, and witnessed the miracle of re-birth through water and Spirit. After the baptisms, two of the teenagers who were baptized, and were undergoing confirmation classes, were confirmed, receiving the Lord’s Supper before the rest of the congregation were invited to the altar.
For YLM, it’s a joy to witness the testimony of the Gospel through the work taking place at these mission-churches. Not only in their provision towards relieving human suffering, but also their dedication in “baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that [Jesus] has commanded you” (Matthew 28:19b-20a).
These last few months, Santisima Trinidad has been encouraging and supporting their scholarship recipients to organize and lead their children’s Sunday school, which has an average attendance of 11 children.
Several of these scholarship students have also been dedicating time for guitar lessons, assisting with worship services, which includes special holiday services, such as Christmas and Easter.
This mission-church has sown seeds of faith through their actions of love and compassion, which has led to their faith-growth, as well as the growing mission hearts of this congregation who supports its ministry as well as the ministry at KM30. With their continued dedication to share the testimony of Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, the body of Christ continues to be “…of one heart and soul…” (Acts 4:32), giving witness to what God has done through Jesus Christ.
