Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care (YLM) recently rolled out the red carpet for the real heroes of their mission—its volunteers. Over thirty dedicated individuals gathered in the YLM Kitchen for a night of gratitude, laughter, and celebration at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. With a lively “Superheroes” theme, the evening honored those who give their time and energy to serve others through YLM’s ministries.

The room buzzed with excitement as the unmistakable sounds of Mariachi San Pablo filled the space, setting the tone for a festive and heartfelt event. The YLM staff not only catered the meal but also served it, a gesture that spoke volumes of their appreciation. Every corner of the kitchen reflected the superhero theme, from vibrant decorations to personalized thank-you cards and certificates of appreciation handed out to each volunteer along with gifts.

A highlight of the evening was the raffle of five gift baskets, which sparked plenty of laughter and cheers. But the most meaningful moment came in the quiet gratitude exchanged between staff and volunteers—a sincere thank-you for the countless hours of service keeping YLM’s mission alive.

In 2024 alone, more than 10,729 hours were logged by over 60 volunteers, translating to a contribution worth over $200,000. These individuals serve in many ways: assisting with the Saturday morning Food Pantry Drive-Thru, maintaining YLM’s buildings, or supporting operations at the Cornucopia Thrift Store. These amazing volunteers make up the very core of YLM’s 42 years of service to the community.

As YLM looks to the future, it continues to build on this strong foundation of service. With the addition of Volunteer Recruiter, Alexandra Maynez, and with the help of YLM’s spring intern Mark Giardinelli, YLM is working on strengthening and solidifying its volunteer program.
