In an effort to support children in Ciudad Juárez, Juárez Mio, a non-profit organization, reached out to Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care (YLM) for school supplies, which were recently donated to Amor y Ayuda (Love and Help), a civic association dedicated to helping children and youth who couldn’t register for school. These children, despite their eagerness to learn, face a challenging reality in Mexico where schools are assigned to specific zones, and each has a limited number of spots. Once those spots are filled, children are left without an option to attend another school, often falling behind in their education.

Amor y Ayuda dedicate their time and resources to helping these children not give up on their dreams. The organization provides a safe, clean space where volunteer teachers work with primary and secondary-aged children to keep them up to date on their education. They play a crucial role in ensuring these kids, who might otherwise fall through the cracks, are still able to learn and grow.

YLM, in partnership with Juárez Mio, has supported underserved communities in Ciudad Juárez for nearly fifteen years. This long-standing collaboration ensures help reaches children and families who need it most. This year, Juárez Mio reached out to YLM during the summer months, asking for school supplies, knowing it would make a difference for the students at Amor y Ayuda.

In response, YLM provided 30 drawstring bags filled with much-needed school supplies. For the children and youth at Amor y Ayuda, these supplies mean more than just paper and pencils—they represent the tools to continue their education, to stay connected to their studies, and to feel supported as they pursue their goals. The joy and excitement were evident as these children received their new supplies, a reminder that even a small act of kindness can have a lasting impact on a child’s life.

As these students settle into their alternative education program, the supplies will help them stay focused and engaged, giving them the resources they need to succeed this school year. The partnership between YLM, Juárez Mio, and Amor y Ayuda is a beautiful example of what can happen when communities come together to support one another, ensuring every child, no matter their circumstances, can learn and thrive.
