Today 41,800 pounds of freshly harvested potatoes arrived, donated by JCP Farms of Long Prairie, Minnesota! The organization, Orphan Grain Train, transported the large shipment to YLM.
YLM volunteers immediately began the work of unloading and preparing them for distribution both directly to families in need and also to other organizations that serve the border community.
Speedy distribution is key when YLM receives a large shipment of fresh, perishable food. Elvira Viramontes, YLM’s Program Facilitator, makes arrangements to include the items in YLM’s weekend distribution and she also quickly contacts people at YLM’s missions in Mexico. In addition to the missions, organizations in El Paso such as the El Paso Rescue Mission, and the food bank “El Pasoans Fighting Hunger” are receiving portions of this shipment. The goal is always to deliver food to those who need it most.
