On Saturday, August 25th, the YLM campus was packed with people who came from all over El Paso County and Ciudad Juarez. 880 children received backpacks filled with school supplies and hygiene kits. A health fair was held at the same time as the back to school distribution with thirteen agencies present to provide other help and information to families. 300 families received food baskets from El Pasoans Fighting Hunger.
The morning began with an orientation and prayer inside San Pablo Lutheran Church. Final registrations were completed and then families were able to form lines at YLM’s dining hall and education building to receive the supplies or food they needed. The RotaCare Clinic was also open providing free assistance to patients.
This was the first day of backpack and supply distributions from YLM. An additional 550 children in Mexico will receive packs and supplies at YLM missions.
The agencies that participated in our health fair were:
Amerigroup Health Agency
El Pasoans Fighting Hunger
Perches Funeral Homes
RotaCare El Paso
San Vicente Health Clinic
Texas Department of Human Services
Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid
Texas Taxpayer Assistance Project
