Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey (“Christ the King”) is situated in a neighborhood of Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, that suffers from economic hardships as well as crime, drug abuse, and broken families. This church the oldest Lutheran church in Juarez and is part of the Lutheran Synod of Mexico. Rev. Jaime Martinez, an octogenarian and former bullfighter serves as pastor at Cristo Rey, while Rosy Lira coordinates the Sunday school program. Attendance is steadily on the rise: 70 new members were confirmed in June 2010, and a second service was added in September 2010. Also in 2010, Cristo Rey was also the proud recipient of new pews thanks to Orphan Grain Train.
