Juarez, Children’s Outreach at Mission San Francisco
Mission Outreach in San Francisco
Pastor Hernandez and his wife Blanca lead a weekly children’s program in “San Francisco,” a very poor community on the eastern edge of Juarez. Upon his arrival, Pastor Hernandez drives through the neighborhood honking his horn, and the children come running out of their houses and sprint for the meeting spot. Music time, coloring, and Bible lessons are standard activities of these Wednesday afternoon gatherings. Rev. Hernandez also includes the children and their parents in other activities of his church “Santisima Trinidad” and special occasions such as VBS & Easter, Christmas Eve, and Reformation services. He arranges transportation for them at these times. Blanca always jokes that each year during the posadas, the kids from San Francisco will win the “best singers” contest.
