Music Classes

The ¡Adelante! Music Ministry has provided low-cost music instruction to the El Paso and Juarez communities in voice, piano, violin, vihuela, guitar, and guitarron since 2001. In El Paso, lessons run 60 minutes per week for ten weeks, at a cost of $30 (just $3 per session).  Contact (915)858-2588 for the dates and times of the next 10 week session of classes.   Anyone 7 years of age and up is encouraged to enroll.

In Juarez, guitar classes are offered at two sites:  Cristo Rey Lutheran Church and Santisima Trinidad Lutheran Church.  ”Mariachi Cristo Rey” began in July 2010 and meets on Sundays from 12-2 pm. Currently there are 10 students enrolled; new registrants are welcome anytime (the church has guitars on hand if you don’t have your own). There is a 20 peso/class fee. A few of the students have already started helping with Sunday services!

Santisima offers 60 minutes of free instruction every Saturday from 10:30-11:30am, in conjunction with its theological education program. The lessons are free and operate on a semester basis: new students can join in the spring and again in the fall. The first semester was spring 2010, although informal instruction had already been taking place for several months; many of the 9 students already have enough experience to accompany the weekly liturgy as well as play at posadas and other special events.
