Pastor Heimer will be speaking at various churches throughout Minnesota beginning tomorrow, May 12, and continuing through Sunday May 20th.  Below are the locations at which the events are open to the public.  Pastor Heimer would welcome anyone to come visit and chat.  Please pray for his safe travels.

]]> http://ylm.org/blog/2012/04/24/30th-anniversary-celebration-dates-announced/feed/ 0 Easter Break Activities in Juarez http://ylm.org/blog/2012/04/16/easter-break-activities-in-juarez/ http://ylm.org/blog/2012/04/16/easter-break-activities-in-juarez/#comments Mon, 16 Apr 2012 15:59:41 +0000 chrish http://ylm.org/?p=6564 Kids in Juarez have two weeks off from school for Easter break.   In addition to the large services on Easter Sunday, activities at several YLM missions across the city have been taking place.  Coloring eggs has been the most favorite activity.  In Mexico,  the eggs are first emptied by making a tiny hole in the bottom.  The eggs are then colored and filled with confetti, and finally, on Easter Sunday, you smack the egg on someone’s forehead, showering them with confetti.

Since the weather is already warm, other outdoor activities took place during the week.  Water balloon tosses were a big hit, as well as roller blades on the paved streets, and various arts and crafts  projects.  The biggest question that remained was what to do with all the eggs that were drained from the shell, Huevos Rancheros for everyone.

Those who were confirmed, also received a special blessing from Pastor Hernandez and then were invited to His table while their parents and godparents looked on with pride and admiration as they confirmed their faith and received Christ’s love through his body and blood.

The thing that stood out this year was the fact that the sanctuary was completely full.  Normally, the children stay in the service until the lessons, then are given a children’s message, and they leave for their Sunday School activities.  This year, because there was no room to even stand, the children were dismissed immediately, and there were still not enough seats for all who were there to honor their resurrected Savior.

You Can Help! http://ylm.org/blog/2012/04/10/summer-vbs-at-juarez-missions-you-can-help/ http://ylm.org/blog/2012/04/10/summer-vbs-at-juarez-missions-you-can-help/#comments Tue, 10 Apr 2012 20:44:57 +0000 chrish http://ylm.org/?p=6517 If your group is coming to YLM this summer but working on the El Paso side of the border, you can still have a part in enriching the lives of kids in Juarez.  Our YLM staff will be running small VBS activities throughout July and August, and we can always use crafts and activities.  Because so many kids attend the missions, it is difficult to have enough materials to serve them all.  The children  absolutely love all crafts, beads, jewelry, foam shapes, stickers, games, art projects and anything that involves doing and making something together.

If you want to include VBS crafts in your extra luggage when you come down (or are able to send crafts and other VBS materials even if a trip to YLM is not on your calender) , we will put these materials to  good use and let you know what the kids were able to do with it.  You will be surprised at some of the creative items that have been made at past events!  For more information, please contact Chris Hill at chill@ylm.org.

On Saturday, March 31 a cookout was held at Parque Chamizal, near the Juarez/El Paso border, to honor the many volunteer leaders at the Juarez missions. The event was organized by Rosy Lira (who is also a great volunteer recruiter) and was attended by over 70 people.  Juarez volunteers and their families ate tacos, carnitas, and chuletas, kids bounced around on a trampoline, rode ponies and tried their hand at fishing in the nearby reservoir, with one even catching the next evening’s dinner.

Pastors, staff, and their families from YLM also attended the event to show our appreciation.  Mission volunteers were given a thank-you gift package including items such as hair dryers, juicers, and beauty supplies. The kids in particular enjoyed being able to play in one of Juarez’s few green areas and enjoy the fellowship with children and adults from other mission sites.
