Food Distribution Grows in Summer

This summer our weekly food basket distribution has grown from 125 to 200 families receiving much-needed help every week.  Elivra Viramontes, program director, explains, “People are spreading the word that help can be found here, the food baskets are a high quality, and we treat people well.”  Because of limited supplies and volunteers, families are registered and allowed to receive food baskets twice a month from YLM.

“I’m always impressed and thankful for the volunteers who help every week (many daily) so that donated food is sorted and distributed in a friendly way each week,” observed Pastor Stephen Heimer, YLM’s COO.

This summer, supplies of food as well as school supplies, hygiene supplies (including new underwear), and more have been bolstered by large donations from the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, the West Texas Foodbank, and Orphan Grain Train.  Thrivent Action Team grants and the generosity of individuals and churches have helped YLM meet the increased need for food and supplies.
