Our Savior Lutheran Church from Minot, North Dakota spent their annual spring week in the sun city serving their friends across the border. Only for the first couple days, it was more like the windy city, as they faced gusts of more than 50 miles per hour, making it a bit difficult to get the building projects underway. Despite the challenges, the team was able to make necessary adjustments to ensure they would finish their projects by the end of the week. This year, the group of 16 tackled two houses near the San Pedro and San Pablo mission at KM 30 in far south Juarez.
Over the past several years, the team from Our Savior has built a relationship with the people of KM 30, and they are quick to renew old friendships as they arrive on site to build. Many familiar faces, both children and adults are quick to share a hug and a story about how their lives have been since they last saw each other. Many of the young children they built for many years ago have now grown, yet they still remember and recognize the good times spent together.
It has been a blessing watching the teams from Our Savior change lives each year through their acts of kindness. The joy experienced by both the team and those they serve cannot be described by words or pictures, only by living it. If you have ever considered an international mission trip, a servant event with us at YLM can be a great jumping off point. Thank you to everyone from Our Savior and we will see you next year.
